Outreach, Media, & Public Engagement

Effective research communication to non-specialist audiences from different backgrounds is corner-stone to GREEN Electronics research.

From presentations at schools to fairs and exhibitions, we are always after opportunuties to communicate exciting and impactful research to the public!

Showcasing Interactive Research

Our RF GREEN electronics research is highly experimental and often have immediate links with real-world applications.

We have demos that showcase in our technology in different use-cases, and work across many of the University of Glasgow's Public Engagement and Outreach teams, including supporting activities focused on widening participation and diversity in engineering. Get in touch if you would like to see a display our work in action!

Public Exhibits

We present our GREEN Microwave Electronics at major science festivals and venues, such as the Glasgow Science Festival, at the Glasgow Riverside Museeum (Transport and Technology Museum).

Hundreds of visitors experienced next-generation wireless power first-hand, including finding invisible microwave signals in a maze!

Policy Engagement and Advocacy

We engage in a range of activities communicating our GREEN Electronics to policy makers including events in the UK and beyond.

As part of the UKRI REACT Centre, we are working on a range of white-papers and policy briefs on the sustainability of the electronics and semiconductors supply chain. Contact us to explore ways of contributing.

Supporting Engineering Outreach Across Glasgow and Beyond

Every year, our GREEN Electronics stall at the Glasgow Doors Open and Explorathon Weekends at UofGlasgow's Advanced Research Centre attracts hundreds of visitors from various backgrounds. Our visitors experienced first-hand how microwaves can deliver clean power, monitor soil and ice and remote envirnoments, and power implants.

We have reached 100s of school pupils for interactive talks and hands-on electronics design and build activities, ranging from half-day activities, short lectures, to longer work experience placements.

Media Case-Study: Battery-Free Smart UV Bandages: Watch on Children's BBC

Our collaborative research (with the University of Southampton and IFREMER, France), published in the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems, has been featured in 300+ news articles as well as various TV and radio shows, most recently on CBBC's Operation Ouch.

Sharing our Experience

Our most recent activities are discussed in an IEEE Microwave Magazine article. Find out the why?, how?, and where? of our public engagement activities.
